Honduras San Andres roasted coffee beans
toffee, plum, black cherry
Honduras San Andres coffee: where black cherry high-fives plum and toffee sneaks in for a surprise hug in your cup. It's a flavour party, and you're invited! And your friends. But not your cat.
In the picturesque hills of San Andres Lempira in Honduras, the San Andres group is brewing something mighty special. Organized by the folks at San Vincente, this merry band of nine smallholder producers is on a mission to sprinkle a little Honduran magic into the world of coffee. Their goal? To craft beans so enchanting they'll transport you to their lush mountainous haven, all while finding their cherished brews a cozy spot in the hearts (and cups) of coffee lovers far and wide. Probably.
Nestled in the mountains at an altitude where the air is as fresh as their coffee, between 1600-1850 meters above sea level, these lands hold tales of bravery. It's where the legendary Lempira once stood tall, defending his home against formidable foes. Fast forward to the 1990s, and a new kind of pioneering spirit took hold – coffee cultivation, inspired by neighboring Lempari and Copan's seasoned bean whisperers. It wasn't long before the venture blossomed, fueled by the bean's allure and its promise of prosperity.
The journey began with the vibrant Typica and charming Catuai coffee varietals, painting the landscape with their lush greenery. However, 2011 brought a twist in the tale with the Roja coffee disease outbreak. But like all good stories, a hero emerged – the National Coffee Institute, recommending the resilient Catimors like Lempira and IH90 as the new guardians of the groves. Today, the fields are a symphony of Catimors and Catuai, with Catuai still reigning supreme in the hearts of our local coffee artisans. It's a tale of tradition, resilience, and a community's love for their land and its bounty.
